In 2023, the frequency of searches on Google for "Solana" exceeded that of "Ethereum" for the first time since the inception of both cryptocurrencies in 2020 and 2015, respectively.
This decision was made after the digital asset surpassed XRP to become the fifth biggest cryptocurrency globally, based on market capitalization, on December 21.
The Proof-of-Stake (PoS) protocol saw further growth, surpassing BNB in market capitalization with a value of $41.9 billion on the following day. SOL momentarily ascended to the fourth rank among the top five digital assets before descending to the fifth place that XRP previously occupied.

A search interest score of 56, which is higher than Ethereum's score of 50, indicates that Solana received more interest during this period than Ethereum did.
The increase results from the increased enthusiasm of traders, fueled by the recent revival of digital assets and other advancements within the Solana ecosystem. The value of SOL has seen a remarkable increase, with the digital asset presently being traded at over $107 per token after a decline to as low as $27 earlier this year.
According to Google statistics, the search phrase "Solana" is expected to reach a search interest score of 100 between December 24 and December 30, coinciding with the recent increase in price. According to Google Trends, a score of 100 indicates the term's highest level of popularity.

The Google data indicated that those searching for Solana also showed interest in other endeavors within the blockchain ecosystem. Additionally, these people searched for meme currency projects like "Bonk" and "Tensor."
The two digital assets have lately garnered attention after the surge in popularity of BONK, a cryptocurrency based on dog-themed memes. On December 8, the token overtook Pepecoin (PEPE) to become the third biggest virtual asset in terms of market value in the memecoin category.
BONK has remarkably increased by over 370% in the last several weeks.
